R.Power and ENGIE complete largest utility-scale BESS transaction in Poland

ENGIE acquires 250 MW / 1 GWh Tursko Wielkie project in the largest BESS transaction completed in Poland to date and one of the largest in Europe.

Pan-European Independent Power Producer R.Power has closed an agreement to sell one of the largest utility-scale battery energy storage (BESS) projects in Poland to ENGIE Zielona Energia, part of the ENGIE Group – a global leader in low-carbon energy and services.

Tursko Wielkie, the BESS project with a capacity of 250 MW / 1 GWh, has already achieved ready-to-build status. Construction work is expected to begin at the start of 2027, with the facility scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2028. The project has now moved fully into ENGIE’s ownership and is the largest asset in ENGIE’s growing utility-scale BESS portfolio in Europe.

The strategic importance of the Tursko Wielkie project is largely determined by its location in southeastern Poland. The storage facility will be connected directly to the Połaniec power substation. This hub plays a fundamental role in the transmission architecture of southeastern Poland. The presence of a utility-scale battery facility at such a crucial network point will allow for efficient power flow management and will provide real relief to the transmission infrastructure in the region.

Including the Tursko Wielkie project in our portfolio is a natural step in ENGIE's long-term strategy for its presence in the Polish market. We view the energy transition holistically. Today, merely expanding renewable energy generation capacity may be insufficient. It is necessary to simultaneously create the infrastructure that will allow this green energy to be safely integrated into the national system. Large-scale energy storage is the foundation for building a flexible system. This investment will allow us to manage our own generation assets and commercial portfolio even more efficiently in the future, while providing the operator with real tools for grid stabilization.
